I identify the group facilitation model that I have found most effective as the Karuna Model.* The model has been utilized for over two decades in partial hospitatlization programs, inpatient settings, community mental health settings, and graduate internship and practicum training sites. The model honors Indian-born, California Distinguished Psychologist Dr. Janmeja Singh, whose early work with Dr. Gerald Caplan on community mental health case consultation serves as the model's foundation. Mindfulness practices were later added to establish and support the compassionate and skillful activities and results of those engaged in its use.
The Karuna Model can be adapted for use at any site and used in any setting that aspires to enhance group members' intrapersonal and interpersonal effectiveness and growth.
